The Alchemist is originally written in Portuguese, yet it has been translated to so many different languages to be enjoyed by so many people in the world. The Alchemist is a wonderfully simple story of the adventure of a young shepherd named Santiago, who wants to change his luck to travel to Egypt, where he believes that it is the place where he will get the precious treasure in the Pyramid.

On his journey to the Egypt, Santiago meets so many people from so many different places, cultures and background. This valuable “treasure” makes him able to understand better so many things that he did not know earlier in his former life of a simple shepherd. One important thing in the journey is that he finally meets the love of his life, as important as his meeting with the Alchemist, who is able to turn metal into gold.

The shocking thing from the whole story and adventure is that Santiago finally finds nothing in the Pyramid in Egypt. Instead, he finds his treasure in the doorstep of his own house back home. With all of Santiago’s journey, the readers are made into think to the meaning of what is precious in life. Moreover, it tells the importance of spirituality with which people will be able to get what they want as long as they have the determination to reach their goal. There will be so many useful learning from the book, as long as they can think deeply about all of the lesson that spreads all over the book. The spirituality that is longed for so long to be achieved by many people will be able to be obtained from one of the greatest book that is ever written by one of the greatest writer in the world, Paulo Coelho.
